So, once again, the spammers have ruined it for everyone else!

When I implemented the comment system on my website, I didn’t require any form of authentication or anti-spambot code because I thought it would be more fun if people could post comments anonymously. Lately, however, the spam bots have discovered my website and have been posting about 2-4 spam comments on random pages each day. I honestly don’t know why they bother; my site hardly gets the traffic to merit such an attack. Spam is nothing personal, just business to them though (much has murder and mayhem is to the mafia), so I know there is no point in complaining. At the moment it is just mildly irritating, but I can see it becoming much worse in the near future. For now I have made screening of all comments mandatory. In the future I may totally turn off the feature :( That is kind of sad.

Most people who do post comments seem to post on the LiveJournal edition of The Twilight Report anyway. I recommend that if you want to use my blog as a two way communication device (as, really, it is intended) that you sign up for a LJ account and that you add me as a friend. The LJ staff already have enabled much more sophisticated mechanisms to deter spammers, and trying to implement my own is just a loosing proposition. My user details are here:

plicease.livejournal.com

I will, of course, continue to post here first and then export my entries to LiveJournal, so if you are content to read-only access that is cool too.
